Living in Wuppertal

If you study in Germany, you don't automatically get a place in a student hall of residence!

Living in Wuppertal is still quite cheap compared to the neighbouring cities of Düsseldorf or Cologne, but you have to look for a room, a flat or a place in a shared flat yourself.

You can find out about and apply for flats in our student residences here. As there is only limited accommodation available here, you can view the list of privately offered flats here.

Secure your accommodation in good time, i.e. four to six months before your arrival if possible! Distinguish between an offer and a (later) contract - always obtain written confirmation of a commitment.

Often the rent seems favourable, but later it turns out that a lot of ‘additional costs’ have to be added. Therefore, please always enquire about the following details before renting:

- What costs are incurred in addition to the rent - for example for heating, electricity, water, stairwell cleaning, internet, etc.?
- Equipment: Is furniture (bed, table, chairs), cooking utensils (pots, plates, cutlery), bed linen available?
- Are there washing facilities for clothes in the flat / cellar / nearby?
- What other services are included?
Take the time to read contracts thoroughly or have anything you don't understand explained to you before you sign!
