Authorities

One of the first points of contact for international students in Wuppertal is the Foreigners' Registration Office. It is responsible for the legal and formal affairs of migrants living in Wuppertal.

Upon application, EU nationals and their family members receive confirmation of their legal freedom of movement in the form of an EC residence permit.

Important: In Germany, there is an obligation to pay fees for radio and television sets, the so-called GEZ. You can register online; you may be exempt from the obligation to pay fees, e.g. if you are a BAföG recipient.

Support programmes

Fancy a trip out? Or an evening at the cinema? The residence tutors offer a cultural programme in the residence (films, excursions, parties etc.). The International Student Team offers support for international students.
There is also a
mentoring programme at the university. Every first-year student is assigned a lecturer as a mentor at the beginning of their studies, who will provide intensive support during the first two semesters.
